The book begins with a brief history of the crafts in India, specifically Punjab, and then delves into the lifestyle of the people of Thathera community providing a eagle-eye view– from lifestyle and education to rituals and customs, from techniques and tools involved in the production of utensils, from their economic life to social life, every aspect is dealt with adequate attention.

This encyclopaedic work about the community is quite exhaustive in itself; while reading I was surprised to find the Kashmir connection. I curbed my desires to write a little about this connection, and have deliberately left it for the reader to find out himself.

Dr. Sukhdev Singh has used simple and lucid language in his book, which is one of the reasons that the book becomes more engaging. A lot many strategically taken photographs, without which of course, the work would have been incomplete, have increased the charm of the book.
