Terms of service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and The Hobby Shop, trading as Indian Hobby Center ("IHC", "we", "us", "our"), Plot No. 2296, Naibedya Complex, Jayadev Vihar Square, Bhubaneswar, Odisha 751013, GSTIN 21AMBPJ9593L1ZP. They govern your use of www.indianhobbycenter.com, our mobile app, and our WhatsApp and social channels (the "Services"), and every purchase you make through them. They are an electronic record under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and do not require a physical or digital signature.

Please read them carefully. By using the Services or placing an order, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, Refund Policy and Shipping Policy, which form part of these Terms.

1. About us

IHC is an online retailer of electronic components, development boards, sensors, drone and RC parts, batteries and power supplies, 3D printing materials, tools, books and collectibles. We sell our own inventory directly to you; we are not a marketplace for other sellers. We serve individual customers, students, makers, educational institutions and businesses across India.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
  • If you are under 18, you may use the Services and buy only through, and with the consent and supervision of, a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
  • If you buy on behalf of a company or institution, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it to these Terms.

3. Your account

You can shop as a guest or create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity in your account. Please give accurate, current information and keep it updated. Tell us at once if you suspect any unauthorised use. We may suspend or close an account that is used for fraud or in breach of these Terms.

4. Product information

  • We take great care to describe products accurately, including specifications, images, compatibility notes and, where required by the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 and the E-Commerce Rules, the MRP, country of origin and other mandatory details.
  • Images are for illustration. Colour, PCB colour, packaging or minor component layout may vary between batches without affecting function.
  • Specifications are often provided by manufacturers. If you need an exact value for a critical project, please check the datasheet or ask us before ordering.
  • Technical guides, tutorials and advice we share are for general information. You are responsible for checking that a product and its use are suitable and safe for your application.

5. Prices and taxes

  • All prices are in Indian Rupees (INR) and include GST unless stated otherwise. Shipping charges are shown separately at checkout.
  • Prices may change from time to time, but the price you pay is the price shown at checkout when you place your order.
  • In the rare case of an obvious pricing or listing error, we will contact you before dispatch. You can then buy at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
  • A GST-compliant tax invoice is issued for every order. Businesses can request an invoice with their GSTIN, which must be provided at or before the time of order.

6. Orders and contract

  • Your order is an offer to buy. A contract is formed when we confirm your order by email, SMS or WhatsApp.
  • We may decline or cancel an order, for example if a product is out of stock, the delivery address cannot be served, an obvious error was made, or we reasonably suspect fraud or misuse. If we do so after payment, we refund the full amount.
  • We may limit quantities per order or per customer to ensure fair availability. Bulk, institutional and reseller orders are welcome; contact us for a quotation.

7. Payment

  • We accept the payment methods shown at checkout and on our Payment page, which may include UPI, debit and credit cards, net banking, wallets, bank transfer (NEFT/IMPS/RTGS) and Partial Cash on Delivery. With Partial Cash on Delivery, a part of the order value is paid online in advance, as shown at checkout, and the balance is paid in cash to the courier on delivery.
  • Online payments are processed by RBI-regulated payment gateways. We never see or store your card number, CVV, UPI PIN or banking password.
  • For direct UPI or bank transfers, please share the UTR or transaction reference with your order number so that we can match your payment quickly. Orders are processed once payment is received.
  • We will never ask for your OTP, PIN, CVV or password by phone, WhatsApp or email. If anyone claiming to be IHC asks for these, please do not share them and report it to us.

8. Shipping, cancellation and returns

Delivery, cancellation, return, replacement and refund are governed by our Shipping Policy and Refund Policy. Ownership of and risk in the products pass to you on delivery.

9. Safe and lawful use of products

Many of our products are technical items that must be used with care.

  • Batteries (especially Li-Po and Li-ion) can catch fire or explode if punctured, short-circuited, over-charged or charged with the wrong charger. Always use a suitable charger, never leave charging batteries unattended, and store them safely.
  • Electronics and power supplies must be wired correctly and used within their rated voltage and current. Mains-powered projects should be built only by people qualified to do so.
  • Drones and RC aircraft must be flown in line with the Drone Rules, 2021 and DGCA requirements, including registration, remote pilot certification and airspace (Digital Sky) permissions where they apply. Wireless and radio modules must be used in line with Department of Telecommunications and WPC rules, including any licence or certification required.
  • Tools, motors, propellers, lasers and heated equipment such as soldering irons and 3D printers can cause injury. Use eye protection and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Many products contain small parts and are not toys. Keep them away from young children unless a product is specifically designed for them.

You are responsible for using products safely and lawfully, and for obtaining any permission your use requires.

10. Acceptable use of the Services

You agree not to:

  • use the Services for any unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purpose, or to buy products for an unlawful use;
  • give false information, impersonate anyone, or place fake or abusive orders;
  • copy, scrape, crawl or harvest content or data from the Services by automated means without our written permission;
  • upload viruses or malicious code, or try to breach, test or bypass the security of the Services;
  • post content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, infringing or otherwise unlawful under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021;
  • misuse offers, coupons or giveaways, for example by creating multiple accounts.

We may suspend access, cancel orders or take legal action if these Terms are breached.

11. Reviews and content you share

We welcome honest reviews, good or bad. Reviews must be genuine, based on your own experience, and follow the Bureau of Indian Standards guidelines on online consumer reviews (IS 19000:2022). We do not publish paid or fake reviews, and we do not remove genuine negative reviews. By posting a review, photo or project, you allow us to display it on our Services and social channels with credit to you, and you confirm that it does not infringe anyone's rights. We may remove content that is unlawful, abusive or unrelated.

12. Intellectual property

The IHC name, logo, tagline "Learn. Shop. Share.", website design, original product descriptions, photographs, guides and other content are owned by or licensed to The Hobby Shop and are protected by the Copyright Act, 1957, the Trade Marks Act, 1999 and other laws. You may view and share links to our content for personal use, but you may not copy, reproduce or use it commercially without our written permission. Third-party brand names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify products.

13. Third-party links and services

The Services may link to or use third-party services, such as courier tracking, payment gateways, datasheets and videos. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or practices. Your use of them is subject to their own terms.

14. Warranties and limitation of liability

  • Branded products carry the manufacturer's warranty, and generic products carry our Tested-on-Delivery warranty, as described in our Refund Policy, in addition to the other remedies in that policy. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
  • To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage caused by misuse, incorrect installation, wiring or charging, modification, accidents, or use contrary to the product's instructions or these Terms.
  • To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as loss of profit, data, business or project time.
  • To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to a product is limited to the amount you paid for that product.
  • We work to keep the Services available and error-free, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, for example during maintenance or outages.

15. Indemnity

You agree to compensate IHC for any reasonable loss, cost or claim, including legal fees, arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of any law, or your unlawful or unsafe use of a product.

16. Privacy

Your personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

17. Force majeure

We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, epidemics, fire, floods, war, riots, strikes, government orders, or failures of networks, couriers or payment systems.

18. Grievance redressal

If you have a complaint about a product, an order or the Services, please contact our customer support first. If the issue is not resolved, contact our Grievance Officer, as required by the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 and the Information Technology Act, 2000:

We acknowledge every complaint within 48 hours and resolve it within one month of receipt. You may also contact the National Consumer Helpline (1915, consumerhelpline.gov.in).

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. We will always try to resolve any dispute with you amicably first. Subject to that, the courts at Bhubaneswar, Odisha have jurisdiction. This does not take away your right, as a consumer, to approach a Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission with jurisdiction under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, including where you live or work.

20. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when our Services or the law change. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Changes do not affect orders placed before they take effect. Continued use of the Services after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

21. General

  • If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
  • If we do not enforce a right immediately, we have not waived it.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent.
  • These Terms, with the policies referred to in them, are the entire agreement between you and IHC about the Services.
