NAVAGUNJARA – A Mythological Marvel, Brought to Life in 3D

Behold the Navagunjara — a legendary composite creature from Hindu mythology, famously depicted in the Odia Mahabharata. This intricately crafted 3D printed figurine is hand-painted by skilled artisans, making every piece a one-of-a-kind collectible.

✦ The Legend Behind the Form

In the Odia Mahabharata, Lord Krishna appeared before Arjuna in the form of Navagunjara — a being composed of nine different animals. Arjuna, recognising the divine in this impossible form, lowered his bow in reverence. This figurine captures that sacred moment of myth and devotion.

The creature combines the features of nine distinct beings:
  • Head: Rooster
  • Neck: Peacock
  • Back: Bull
  • Waist: Lion
  • Tail: Serpent
  • Three Legs: Elephant, tiger, and deer
  • Fourth Limb: A raised human hand holding a lotus or chakra

✦ Cultural Significance

  • Teachings: The legend is designed to teach humility and to show that divinity exists in every being, even those that defy human imagination.
  • Art: Navagunjara is a prominent, iconic motif in the traditional Pattachitra painting style of Odisha.
  • Architecture: A famous carving of Arjuna bowing to the Navagunjara can be found on the northern wall of the historic Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. It is also elegantly engraved facing the flagpole on the temple's Neela Chakra (Blue Wheel).
