Social justice and human rights remain integral to progressive politics all over the world. This has inspired numerous domestic and transnational social movements on issues as varied as from protection for oppressed people to challenging authoritarian regimes.

India has an impressive array of laws and policies to ensure universal human rights to all segments of society. However, ensuring human rights to all is a complex task with important institutional, moral and political dimensions. The major endeavour of this book is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the policy and practice of human rights in India. It has further discussed some of the key human rights issues in contemporary India.
