The Greek civilisation (about 6th to 4th century B.C.) was thegreatest one in Europe. Spartan and Athenian valour is know theworld over. The Greeks made grand temples, lovely vases and thingsof architectural grandeur. They had a keen spirit of inquiryparticularly of the scientific kind and sought to know they why andthe how of everything. This spirit is embodied in their greatphilosophers from the Ionians to Plato and Aristotle. They aimed atperfection (arete) in all thinks. This book endeavours to give a brief account of the wars they fought some against external powers like the Persians, others unfortunately internecine, of their disciplined culture.
