The chief goal of this book is to present a systematic account of the foundations of contemporary sociology in such a way as to make it both understandable and interesting to readers with little or no previous knowledge of the subject. As compared with other available textbooks the book gives an unusual amount of space to social structure, functional analysis, socialization, ideology, the sources of conformity and deviation and social change.
