A REVOLUTIONARY LIFE : MEMOIRS OF A POLITICAL ACTIVIST BY LAKSHMI SAHGAL (PAPERBACK)

Book Description

A Revolutionary Life: Memoirs of a Political Activist by Lakshmi Sahgal presents the life, experiences, and political commitments of one of India's most prominent revolutionary figures. Lakshmi Sahgal, widely known as Captain Lakshmi, was a physician, freedom fighter, and leader of the Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the Indian National Army (INA) under Subhas Chandra Bose. Her life reflects a remarkable combination of patriotism, political activism, social commitment, and service to humanity.

The memoir explores her involvement in India's struggle for independence, her experiences with the Indian National Army, and her participation in movements for social justice and equality. It offers insights into the revolutionary ideals that shaped her political outlook and her commitment to challenging colonial rule, gender discrimination, and social inequalities.

Beyond the independence movement, the book highlights her lifelong dedication to public service, particularly her work as a doctor among disadvantaged communities and her involvement in left-wing politics and progressive social movements. Her experiences provide a valuable perspective on the relationship between nationalism, women's participation in political struggles, and the pursuit of social transformation.

This book is a significant resource for readers interested in Indian history, the freedom struggle, women's contributions to revolutionary movements, political activism, and the development of progressive political thought in modern India. It offers an account of a life devoted to independence, equality, and social responsibility.
