The book deals with a number of important human rights problems of a developing society. They traverse a wide field, covering in their sweep problems like human rights violations by the police, nightmarish conditions in Indian prisons, shameless exploitation of women and children and other human rights issues like the rights of the victims of crime. In these articles, the author has drawn on his rich and varied experience of working for more than three and a half decades as a law-enforcement officer and as the Director General of the National Human Rights Commission. The articles reveal a sensitive, alert and analytical mind with deep concern for disadvantaged and disempowered victims of human rights violations.
